Unlike most social clubs and meetup groups, we are committed to fostering a sisterhood. Our mission is to cultivate an inclusive and empowering sisterhood for women of color, leveraging our collective strength to address social issues and drive positive change in our communities. We are dedicated to fostering personal and professional growth as we experience sisterhood together.
Our vision is to improve the lives of women of color by creating a dynamic connection hub, where women feel welcomed to come together to meet, grow, volunteer, and learn from one another. We are dedicated to passionately embracing the challenges of everyday life, supporting each other through our shared experiences. As we grow, we will continue to nurture our sisterhood and increase our membership as we navigate through the journey of friendship, support and life long bonds.
We are guided by a set of core values that define who we are as a sisterhood and as a community organization. We strive to positively impact the lives of the women in our sisterhood as well as our surrounding communities. Our values shape our overall decision making processes, future goals and current expectations within the leadership team as well as our membership.
Platinum Divas was founded in 2009 by Karen Reeder, a dynamic and visionary leader from Augusta, Georgia. She relocated to Houston in 2001 in pursuit of a career in the oil and gas industry, holding a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from South Carolina State University.
Karen began her career at ExxonMobil in procurement, moving into facility engineering in 2007. Her work as a procurement manager took her around the world before she transitioned into project management, where her leadership truly shined. She is currently Lead Project Manager at Target, designing and implementing the project management tools behind new nodes in the Target network.
Beyond her professional life, Karen finds joy in the company of loved ones. Recognizing how much connection and empowerment matter, she built Platinum Divas as a haven for women of color \u2014 a social home in Houston to gather, grow, and learn from one another.
The women who plan the gatherings, chair the pillars, and keep this running.
Our gatherings take place across Greater Houston and the Gulf Coast, from Uptown to Pearland and Manvel.
